In order to keep my eggs clean, I line my laying boxes with shredded paper. I shred some of my own, and I occasionally bring home shreds from the office. Imagine my surprise when I went to gather eggs and found one egg with the name of my employer on it! I just had to get the picture ...

Writing / Novels

Welcome to my "Scribblings on the wall of mortality" online pages. Here, you will find samples of writing from four novel-length manuscripts, future works, short stories, and the like.

You are welcome to browse these excerpts. Please bear in mind that these are original works, and may not be plagiarized in whole or in part:

EXCERPT: - "A Far Cry" Harcover/Softcover - In process

Martin Willock can't even work on his computer nowadays without seeing visions, portentious harbingers of evil. Where will it all end?

EXCERPT: - "Omens II: The Rogue" Harcover/Softcover - In process

Set on the historic Rogue River loop in southern Oregon, this novel picks up where Omens left off. After Safford, Daryl Collins has moved on - but still is troubled by the fact that no body was ever recovered. Many of your favorites from the first novel return in the second.

EXCERPT: - "Omens"
A lycanthropic entity roams the streets of Safford, Arizona. People are dying out in the deserts surrounding what once was a quiet out-of-the-way town. It is not until Safford Police Chief Daryl Collins and Graham County Sheriff Guy Stapleton pay a visit to a psychic at the local strip club that they realize how badly they've underestimated the danger to themselves, and to the town of Safford. It's what you've always been afraid of...

If you are a hard-core horror reader, this is your book. By horror, I'm not talking about Freddie or Jason - this is psychological and emotional horror in its purest form.

EXCERPT: - "Secret Things"
In the tiny logging community of Talawanda, Washington, people are suddenly seeing things ... or are they? Explain that to Joshua Lawrence and Marina Waters, two strangers who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Both are assured it is all just tricks of light, nothing more. Then why is the U.S. military moving in under cover of darkness?

SHORT STORY: - "The Winner"
Fiction, but based on real-life coping with the horrific pain of a stillbirth. Brock Tipton walks into a Bremerton bar and ends up making the best out of a bad situation.

AUTHOR RECOMMENDED:
"Level Heads XE" is the best introduction to my writing. More than a collection of short stories - the book goes into detail of how each story was concieved and what it was based on.

EXCERPT: - "Glass"
Formerly agented. Eric Watkins is obsessed with his abusive stepfather, though he hasn't seen the man in twenty years ... or has he?

Set in Phoenix and in small towns north of Phoenix (Cordes Junction, Prescott), this novel has a CSI/Forensics feel to it and has been well-received by all critics. Read the reviews on amazon.com.

SHORT STORY: - "Corey's Coming"

Old John Joseph was a man with two first names. Based on the Harry Chapin song, "Corey's Coming." You had to be there.

EXCERPT: - "Wanton Disregard" Harcover/Softcover - Coming Soon!

There's something wrong with the new maternity nurse, but no one can quite figure out what it is ... until lives are suddenly, irreparably altered.

Jim W. Coleman is an accomplished author and artist from Port Orchard, Washington, a small community directly across the Puget Sound from Seattle.
