04/06/2007 - SATURN

This view of Saturn is from April of last year but I thought I would repost it as we're getting back into prime astrophotography season in the Seattle area. Unfortunately, by this time next year, Saturn's rings will be edge-on to us and practically invisible, so let's start looking at them now! Photo was taken from the St. Wiggles Observatory on my property using a 12" Meade LX90 with a Canon EOS 20D. Visit my astronomy site by clicking here: thenakedastronomer.com.

10/06/2006 - TILLAMOOK CHEESE FACTORY

A look inside the Tillamook cheese factory. I could have just stayed there to live, but they probably would have put me to work.

05/15/2006 - BREMERTON COMMUTE

051506 dodge ram accident.jpg
Our morning commute was once again interrupted by an accident. Here, a small car collided with a full-size Dodge Ram and tipped it over on its side. Not sure if there were any injuries or not but didn't appear so. Gave us something to talk about at work for a good hour, or so.

05/06/2006 - TREED

Linda, always with a great eye for a good shot, gets a great shot of a tree on the Lariat Drive property.

12/20/2001 - PROSPERITY (VALLEY WEST) MALL

122001 prosperity mall freaks.jpg
Here, the Valley West Mall (as originally named when built) is demolished shortly after the filming of the wonderful movie "8 Legged Freaks." The movie was filmed in this abandoned mall. As a child, Jim W. Coleman watched as the mall was built and then spent much of his childhood in the mall.

04/25/2006 - AERIAL BREMERTON

042506arialbremerton.jpg
Bremerton, as pictured from atop the KPS building in downtown. My oh my, what a sunny day it was. I almost fell off. Mike Sanders would have had to do some tall explaining ... vertigo, you know ...

04/17/2006 - COOOOOOL! BUT SAD!

041706truckfire.jpg
While driving back from a dentist appointment this morning, Linda Coleman saw a truck burning on the side of the road and stopped to get a photo while calling 911. While we feel bad for the owner, it was quite spectacular ... but I guess in Palestine, it's pretty commonplace. But not in Port Orchard.

02/26/2006 - GIMME A HAND (OR A DVD)

022606 video arm.jpg
Jim's new wonderful invention: Imagine having an entertainment center where you can say: "Stephen King's The Shining, and not the crappy Jack Nicholson version" and lo and behold, it serves you the movie, followed by a single-malt scotch and something for the missus. Here, the unit functions perfectly, serving the movie from a large stockpile of DVD's.

02/02/2006 - CAN YOU SAY "GEEEEEK?"

020206geeeeek.jpg
Here, the world-famous Author Cam is being replaced. For the last half-year, it has run on an old P4, built by Jim W. Coleman from spare parts and duct-taped into the network. Now, there is a reshuffling of computers on the network and the Author Cam will live on - but not until the entire network is reconfigured. Jim lives and breathes this stuff, bits and bytes, ones and zeros. Wow, oh what a feeling!

02/01/2006 - WHY DO YOU CARRY A DIGITAL CAMERA EVERYWHERE?

020106stennis.jpg
I'm sometimes asked why I carry a digital camera with me EVERYWHERE I go. Now picture this - you are passing in front of a window just minding your own business and you look up to see a giant aircraft carrier going by RIGHT in front of you, and in living color. That's why. This is the mighty USS Stennis departing the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Sometimes, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. But if you don't have your camera with you...

01/27/2006 - STENNIS RETURNS

012706stennis.jpg
Today I was driving down Navy Yard Highway in Bremerton and I saw the USS Stennis pulling in. I had to pull over and snap a picture. I have some dear friends on the Stennis and also some co-workers (who also are friends) were on board documenting a short underway for the local newspaper.

STAR TREK ARCADE GAME

488 star trek game.jpg
Jim's Star Trek arcade game, set up in the Phoenix apartment. Jim was an avid Star Trek collector/dealer who sold at conventions, and finally sold out his inventory and got a life. :) But he wishes that he would have kept this game.

1986 - TWO KITTIES

1986 kitties in claws.jpg
Two adorable kitty cats Jim owned years ago - back before he because horribly allergic to cats. Today, he has one cat - and even that gets hard sometimes.

01/16/2000 - OUCH! WASTING A GOOD VW!

I cringe every time I see this picture - a photo of my good neighbor's car after a severe windstorm in the Manchester, Washington area.

2002 - DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY!

2002 be happy.JPG
I saw this walking around at The Cruz car show in downtown Port Orchard in the summer of 2002 and just had to take a photo of it. :)

2002 CARL VINSON

2002vinson.jpg
The aircraft-carrier USS Carl Vinson returns to Bremerton after striking Afghanistan to kick off the War on Terror. She was greeting by a huge throng of people, all waving red, white and blue.

2001 NISQUALLY EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE

2001quake.jpg

Here is a photo taken inside a Rite-Aid store shortly after the 2001 Nisqually Earthquake that originated near Olympia, Washington. This particular store is located in Port Orchard, Wash. Linda Batt, pictured, died late in 2006, and will be remembered fondly by all her friends and coworkers.
