03/02/2007 - SO LONG, DOC BROOKS

The world has lost a charming storyteller and I, a close friend, a kindred intellect, a fellow smartass. Those times we spent discussing quasars, black holes, air guns and women were assumed to always continue but now have abruptly ended. The projects we started are left unfinished and I, too, feel incomplete. With whom shall I argue the fundamentals of dark matter or the pitfalls of NASCAR in Kitsap County? We left young Charlie Brooks walking alone up the road and the frogs still are making quite the ruckus, Charles.

Fly on, Doc, and don't succumb to the siren song of gravity. When you solve the dark matter question, radio back somehow, or just turn and look behind you. I may be there.

Signed,
The one you called "Reverend."

01/20/2007 - THE DOC AND JIM

The Honorable Reverend Jim poses with his dear friend, Dr. Charles Brooks, and Mike Heaton during a night of fellowship at the Hi-Tide Tavern in Port Orchard. There were souls to save and sins to be redeemed that night, and the Doc was dressed to kill.

Sadly, the Doc died one month exactly after this photo was taken. I am very honored to have known Charles and will miss him terribly. Already, this has become a cherished picture...

Grandpa Wolf kisses Hoooooga goodbye. When he was buried a year later, his hands were folded over his chest. Between his fingers, this picture still rests - Grandpa faces it eternally.
