07/06/2008 - REBUILT CHARLIE BUG (1974 VW)

Over the Fourth of July weekend, I successfully completed the engine installation on "Charlie Bug," the 1974 yellow classic VW Beetle. :) Now, to weld in new floorpans, as I had to remove most of the seats since there is nothing there to support them. Also pictured, the 1972 Beetle. I corrected an intermittent ignition problem with that car today, as well.

About the same shape as a bright yellow Easter egg, my VW sits on Easter Sunday, awaiting its new engine ... which will start once we get a warm weekend or two. And I mean new engine literally - it sparkles!

I think that if my dearly departed friend, Charles Brooks, knew that I would name a rusted-out Volkswagen after him, he'd be proud. This is how we found Charlie, and later brought him home. (He won't look like this for long!)
