03/30/2008 - EASTER SPIRIT!

Easter is over but with Easter Lilies on clearance, Linda thought they might look great in front of Spirit Rock. And yes, I think we'd all have to agree. Now we wonder who is buried beneath the rock ... looks like a funeral in progress. :)

03/26/2008 - ERICA BROKE MY GLASSES!

CLICK TO FIX GLASSES
On the way into the parent/teacher conferences at North Mason High School tonight, my 17-year-old daughter playfully butted heads with me in the parking lot ... and broke my glasses. A parent has to wonder why a child would want them to have broken glasses going in to review grades and progress. Well, just to get her back, I decided to wear the glasses all night as I walked through the school. It was no big deal, though - we were in Mason County, after all. I fit right in. All I was missing was the two-tone brown and white Ford F-250 with the bale of hay in the back.

03/24/2008 - U.S.S. JOHN C. STENNIS SETS SAIL

A nice thing about life in the Pacific Northwest is being able to take a boat to work every day. Sometimes, we'll encounter an even larger boat on (or sometimes beneath) the water. Here, the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Stennis departs for sea trials, as seen from the Hampton Inn and Suites boardwalk in Bremerton.

03/23/2008 - EASTER CHARLIE BUG

About the same shape as a bright yellow Easter egg, my VW sits on Easter Sunday, awaiting its new engine ... which will start once we get a warm weekend or two. And I mean new engine literally - it sparkles!

03/17/2008 - SETTING IN FRUIT TREES OUT BACK

After having a sizeable tract of our property logged, I'm now putting in up to 20 fruit trees - Russian Quince, plums, pears, apples, cherries and more. Here you can see some of the trees going in. The wire cages are to protect them from numerous deer that light to come nibble their way through our acreage.

03/15/2008 - TOMATO STARTS IN GARAGE

Last year, I started my tomatoes from seed on Feb. 20. This year, I was able to wait (although in pins and needles) until a more sensible date. Here, two of the trays sit in the garage under grow lights and heat lamps. Looking forward to a great year for tomatoes!

The black sexlink chick (wow, the search engines will have fun with THIS one.. :) sits atop a feeder. Here, the chick is five days young, fresh from the egg and out into the real world. As real as it can get in Jim and Linda's garage...

03/09/2008 - BLACK SEX LINKS

The black sex links (they are actually Black Sexlinks but I split the words because it will REALLY irritate the perverts who use search engines to find naughties) are now living in the brooder box I built some five or six years ago. The design has proven to be perfect - this box has protected and nurtured dozens of chickens. This time, it sits in our garage and will be used for a month or six weeks and then retired again until next year.

03/08/2008 - DUMPING INTO THE CROP CIRCLE

Morrison Gravel delivers 10 yards of dirt, the perfect amount to fill the "crop circle" - a construction in the center of a circular driveway that will, later this year, be a productive tomato garden. Hence the name, "Crop Circle."
