04/29/2007 - SCREW IN VALVE

Auto repair is not rocket science. Well, at least, it didn't use to be. When an engine doesn't run well, there is always a reason and sometimes you have to dig into it. This Volkswagen ran badly and I figured it was a bent valve or a pushrod/rocker problem. After removing the cylinder head, though, I was amazed to find this screw wedged solidly into the valve, preventing it from closing. As Gomer would say: WELL GAWWWWLY! MY CAR DONE GOT SCREWED!

04/22/2007 - WEEKS AWAY FROM GRASS

If you've been a regular reader of this blog, you'll know that putting a lawn in the back yard of our house has been a dream for years, and we've been working at it for years - patiently clearing trees, buildings, junk and other debris from the yard and then working and reworking the soil many times over, advancing a little futher each year. Today, the final tilling was done and after some levelling, the yard will be planted within 7 to 14 days. Here, Jim W. Coleman works the tiller.

04/08/2007 - BREATHTAKING EVERGREEN PARK

I started a walking group at work and walk several miles a day. One of my routes takes us through Bremerton's Evergreen Park. One day in April, the cherry blossoms were brilliant in the mid-day sun and I just *had* to get a picture - you know what I mean? I hope you enjoy this - and that you can almost hear the bees buzzing as you click on this photo to enlarge it (and then buy my book!)

04/07/2007 - INDOOR GARDENING

The Pacific Northwest weather has virtually shut out any chance of stargazing, so I have temporarily converted the St. Wiggles Observatory into a greehouse of sorts. Here, heat lamps keep the observatory warm and lit - a perfect environment for my tomatoes. Hopefully soon, I can move the tomatoes out and the stargazing equipment back in!

04/06/2007 - BODY OFF, SO LONG CONNIE

The end is nearing for this 1976 Beetle - today I fully separated the body from the running gear, and the two shall never be mated again. New floorpans will be welded in on the chassis and the body ... well - that will become a greenhouse out in the back yard, forever and ever, amen.

While sitting at the Hi Tide Tavern, having a beer and talking with Lisa A., this magnificent creature landed on a tree right outside the bar and hung around for quite some time, giving me an opportunity to run out to the truck to grab my camera!

03/31/2007 - GREAT BIG GIG

Most of you know that I'm a huge fan of Beth Hart - man, she can really belt out a good song. Same with this gal. Here, I'm pictured with Robin, from the local Pink Floyd tribute band "Blind Floyd." Robin was the hit of the show, performing "Great big gig in the sky" flawlessly. Later, I'll post some video from the show. If you haven't seen Blind Floyd yet, make a point of it. I guarantee it...

Later, I will review the band and the show on my "other" site: www.untangledup.com.

03/31/2007 - CONNECTIONS

Life is all about connections - new people, new experiences. Lt. Lisa Saar returned from Iraq last week, and I enjoyed her many stories. Paul works with management and bookings of bands. Both were very interesting table mates during my "night out" at the Manette.
