10/18/2008 - WAVING SIGNS ON TREMONT

I carry a number of political signs in my truck and pull over whenever I see a group of politically-motivated people waving signs on the side of the road. Democrat or Republican, it doesn't matter - I can stand with them or on the opposite street corner.

Today, I spent hours waving signs in Port Orchard on the Safeway/Rite Aid intersection. And boy, let me tell you, that was quite the experience. Don't ever stand on a street corner with a political sign unless you have thick skin, and some real resolve.

Lots of passersby honked and gave me the "thumbs-up" sign but there were some who felt they couldn't drive by without shaking their head, flashing the "thumbs down" sign, flipping the bird, or yelling obscenties out the window. "Republicans are Nazi pigs!" was one such shouted comment, as was "Dino Rossi can suck my dick!" Let me tell you - I encountered hundreds of Port Orchard Democrats in the space of two to three hours and it was not pretty. Fortunately, the honks drowned out the shouters, and there were many more "thumbs up" than flying fingers. I was, actually, surprised at the overall positive reaction. So much for the so-called "polls" ...

It's a real shame that the Democrats can't do better than shouted insults on a chicken-shit driveby. It's easy to press the accelerator and yell at someone has stood out in the weather for several hours. We are Americans, sharing the same freedoms and the same two-party system.

We have a two-party system for a reason. But don't tell that to Port Orchard democrats. Makes me happy - and proud - that I'm not one of them.

Kinda reminds me of the email I got from John, at work. One one line he says:
I don't take anyone seriously who supports the McCain/Palin ticket.

Then, in the next paragraph:
We can agree to disagree without being disagreeable.

Maybe that's the difference between someone like me and a party who thinks they are more American or somewhat superior: I do take very seriously people who support the Obama/Biden ticket. And I'm learning to duck when they throw things and have their little temper tantrums behind the wheel.
