04/19/2007 - PORT ORCHARD TOWN HALL CLOSED FOR BUSINESS

That sure is a nice Town Hall building that we taxpayers built in our lovely downtown Port Orchard corridor. It's where you can go take care of a lot of business and interact with our local government. When it's open, that is. I find it odd that with this huge Commute Trip Reduction, carpooling and public transit push that when I visited town hall at 4:35 to buy a parking pass so that I could commute by ferry ... it was CLOSED!

WHAT? The door was locked. That was insult to injury. I've already done my fair share to help finance the building and I contribute to salaries there through my taxes ... and it's closed? When are we supposed to be able to use Town Hall? Do we need to take a vacation day from work? I left work a bit early so that I could get my parking pass, assuming that Town Hall would at LEAST be open until five - that magical hour when most taxpayers get to clock out.

I find it rather presumptuous on our local goverment's part to think that they somehow get to work less than we do and that their services are not at our disposal or even available to a vast majority of us who clock in earlier than they do, and clock out far later. Personally, I work from 7:15 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Guess I should get a job at Port Orchard's Town Hall. It's on Easy Street.
