Photo of High Water Verde River painting by Jim W Coleman

SOLD

My art mentor, the late Daniel F. Schmidt, once painted a landscape scene from the Verde River in central Arizona. Interestingly, I, too, had done a similar landscape pen-and-ink piece without ever knowing Dan had done the same. In fact, we may have illustrated the same distinctive tree.

In choosing what I would paint for this first in a series of oil and acrylic paintings, I decided to revisit the Verde and paint a different scene - this one from a photo I took back in 2001 during a prolonged drought. I was amazed at how the high water marks were over my head and how shallow the river was.

This is "High Water" - a 16x20 inch acrylic on masonite board.
