![]() ![]() "Indiana," the flagship Cherokee Art print of 2002, was completed shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 30. It was a rather unremarkable morning - a grey fog blanketed the area and darkened the art studio, and Led Zeppelins' song about going to California played softly from the stereo.
By "flagship print," I simply mean that this print is the best of 2002, and representative of everything else accomplished in 2002. It is also the print I spent the most amount of time with - four months, to be precise; the print was begun July 14 and completed on Nov. 30. I will add some photos here later for the curious - steps and stages toward completion.
The most difficult part of this print - and the part that required the most time - was the composition. The physical labor actually only took about 90 hours of meticulous drawing and stippling. But deciding what should go where, what the background should be, how to best convey a theme, which elements were important or unimportant, which angle should the light come from - and so on and so forth - THAT obsessed me throughout the four months. In fact, most of the key thematic elements of the print came together in the last 24 hours. Tucked and tidy, white clean and neat.
It is my pleasure to present "Indiana." I urge you to order a copy today. It is my most definitive work, to date. But, 2003 is right around the corner.
